Five percent of the time, if I'm using it my PC, five percent of the time it's still one hundred percent mine. And this wasn't just him, by the way.

I mean the timeline is crazy, and this is what makes me even more upset about the story in general. Is i want to show you the timeline here, because it just gets absurd.

All right, december of last year, micron killed crucial. You guys remember that their consumer brand, 29 years gone, the ram that you bought for your first build, i know a lot of people use crucial memory, and their press release said that it was because of ai data center demand.

And then you'll remember february of this year. I mean, dude, the year just gets worse and worse. Valve delays the steam machine and the steam frame, and you'll remember what they said.

Yes, the memory shortages, we all remember that. And then may, right after that, steam deck price increase goes from 549 to 789, the exact same hardware, wild stuff.

And then june, the very next month, the xbox series x, 800 bucks. That console, by the way, if you keep a track at home, it launched at 499 dollars.

And microsoft said, yes, memory storage costs were up, so gotta raise prices. So that brings us to today, october, november.

Sk hynix just released. Release their earnings, 80 percent margin. That's more than half of their output being spoken for through 2028, and they expect the shortage to last through 2030.

So every single company that's been part of this memory blame game, you have memory makers who are saying, listen, i'd love to sell you affordable memory, but the demand went to data center, so we're killing our consumer brand.

Or we're raising our price, but it's because of the ai data centers. So all the finger pointing at ai data center, and then the person responsible for that 40 percent, 40 percent of the world's ram being eaten up, just so happens to be the guy who's sitting in a pub over a pint saying, yeah, i, yeah, but isn't it terrible that you're wasting your memory?

Isn't that kind of the problem? That's like the craziest thing that i've ever heard. It's absolutely nuts, insane behavior.

Uh, real quick here, if you're not subscribed, hit it. Uh, your your subscribe button sitting there being used 0 percent of the time, and apparently that is a waste now too.

So if you wouldn't mind clicking that, that'd be great. Now does uh sam have some points here though? Does sam altman have some.

Some good points here by chance. Could it be on utilization? Maybe because his stuff, you know, his racks they run flat out 24/7 and thousands of people and you you turn your pc off when you go to work or at night.

If you're if you're good or if you're like me, you leave it on all day and forget to turn it off. But either way, sometimes you're just using your pc during the day when you need it per token.

The cloud is definitely cheaper. That is true. But here's where he's very wrong. And by the way, most of what he said is very wrong.

That 5% utilization number that he throws out there. Where did that come from? And who came up with that? Where's it coming from?

Because nobody had OpenAI published a study about how often like my ram or your ram is busy. He just said the number in a pub and so when you're gaming, dude, your ram's not idle.

It's pretty much pinned, right? You know, you bought 32 gigs or 64 for a reason. You 16, you're using it for your purposes for your purposes.

Utilization at the end of the day is a landlord's number essentially because if you think about it, your car, when i'm at work, my.

Car sitting in the parking lot for 95% of the day and nobody's telling me at least yet to sell it and uber around every day because i'm not using it 100% of the time, right?

But i guess when you think about it, uber probably would tell you to do that. So i think it's very much akin to that analogy.

And of course, of course, he thinks it's terrible. This is the guy who's selling the cloud, so he kind of gets to make the rules.

He gets to set prices, he decides which model you get today and what it won't answer, and the cloud is pretty efficient right up until it it doesn't belong to you and it's not yours.

And this is the same guy by the way who spent six and a half billion dollars buying johnny ive's company to build a pocket ai device.

So that's a gadget that you can carry by the way with memory in it, but memories are wasted in your pc, but not that device.

The difference for sam altman and folks like him is who sold you the memory. That's all that matters. Bottom line for me is this, even if the numbers right, you know, 5% of the time, if i'm using it my pc 5% of the time, it's still 100% mine.

So that's the entire point. So i'm gonna. Go back to my tweet, and i'm gonna say it one more time. By the way, if you're not following me on x, please do.

It's it's tough out there on that platform of trying to figure it out. Owning your own local pc hardware has never been more important.

Again, i'm a guy that sells pc hardware. I very much get the bias there, very much so. So, i'll add an asterisk and say, i'd love if you bought a computer from me, but i don't care if you buy from me or not.

I know plenty of you on this channel build your own pcs or live where we don't ship. Listen, if you're gonna buy from me, you're gonna buy from me.

If not, you're not, and that's why i make content. You don't have to buy something from me to support the content. You just being here is is plenty.

So, at the end of the day, the truth is, they don't want you to own your own components that are capable of running on your own local system.

Whether you touch ai stuff or not, you know what? Maybe you're not into it, that's totally fine. But listen, local hardware has never ever been more important than now.

All right guys, that's gonna do for today. Let me know how much ram you have in your pcs at home. Maybe we could broker a deal with sam altman, something like i'm thinking.

Thinking, um, maybe a million per gig. That seem fair? Yeah, that seems fair, doesn't it? All right guys, thanks so much for watching.
